Stress Reduction/Relaxation

Medical research is seeing a direct link between diseases and stress. Some estimates say 40 - 80% of all visits to doctors may be directly related to stress. Ask yourself, where do you fit in this picture? Do you have illnesses or conditions brought on by stress or made worse by it?

There are many, many conditions likely caused by stress. Far too many of us suffer from things like:

  • heart disease
  • chronic fatigue
  • anxiety attacks
  • mood swings
  • psychological distress
  • depression
  • sleep problems
  • high blood pressure
  • eating disorders
  • peptic ulcers
  • poor immune function
  • chronic pain
  • colds
  • flu
  • viruses
  • headaches
  • migraines
  • alcoholism
  • smoking-related respiratory ailments

Progressive Relaxation

The approach I use is called progressive relaxation. This technique is a powerful mind/body connection that will help your mind/body totally relax. Clients that have used this method have remarked "I've never felt so relaxed"; "I notice I'm more in control of my anger". "I feel better about myself".

Let's talk about progressive relaxation for a minute. Progressive Relaxation techniques grew out of a set of methods originating in the 1930's in the writings of Edmund Jacobson. Professionals from many different fields use this method to teach their clients to relax. Progressive relaxation procedures are commonly used because of their diverse symptom relief and quick results. Most professionals teach their clients how to relax but what I do is give you a CD to use in the privacy of your home or office. You will listen to me relaxing your muscles for you with beautiful serene music in the background that helps to enhance the relaxation process.

Please note: this therapy is not to be used to diagnose a disorder but should be used in conjuction with any medications you are taking.
